Oglesby mayor leaning against reelection bid — Geneva Schools news

Oglesby voters may be asked to select a new mayor in spring 2027. Incumbent Jason Curran said Monday he’s leaning against a reelection bid.At the meeting of the Oglesby City Council, Curran acknowledged he’s been frequently asked whether he’ll seek another four-year term. “Short story? I have not made a final decision,” Curran said, “but if I had to decide today, I would probably be leaning to not seeking another term.”Curren said his wife pointed out he’d spent 30 years in public service: 20 years active duty with the U.S. Navy, two years with Oglesby schools, and eight on the city council. “I had not really stopped to add it up,” he said, “30 years is a long time.”Curran won the mayor’s seat in 2023 with more than 50% of the vote, emerging from a three-way contest with past Mayor Don Finley and then-Commissioner Jim Cullinan.
