The Joliet City Council on Monday approved a 2027 balanced budget well ahead of an end-of-year deadline. The uncontroversial $751 million budget included no new taxes, no added jobs, and no big changes, leaving little discussion about the details. Both the budget and a $64.8 million property tax levy, up 5% from this year, were approved without discussion. The $3.1 million in additional property taxes will come from new property development, according to Joliet Finance Director Kevin Sing.Homeowners should not see an increase in the city’s share of their property taxes, and the city tax rate will go down for a fifth consecutive year, Sing told the council in a previous budget presentation. The 2027 budget is up from a $695 million budget this year. The budget was approved unanimously. One council member, Larry Hug, voted against the levy without comment.Previous public hearings on the budget and levy were held without any comments from the public.
